Established in 1947 as DAWN Newspaper, the oldest, yet the most respected and cutting-edge newspaper in Pakistan.
Wielding enormous influence among business leaders, policy makers, think tanks, and within the English reading public at large, DAWN is characterised by the editorial excellence it brings in publishing some of the most influential and widely read English language newspapers and magazines in the country and by a clarity of vision that enables it to embrace change, innovate and initiate ground-breaking projects.
DAWN is the Pakistan’s largest selling and most influential English language newspaper. Founded by the Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah (Pakistan’s Founder), on August 14, 1947, today, by virtue of its coverage, credibility and distribution networks, DAWN has grown into a national institution. The newspaper’s influence is founded on an unblemished track record of credible, solid and impartial reporting and the presence, within its pages, of a wide range of informed comment and opinion.
Printed and published simultaneously in Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore and distributed nationwide, DAWN has regional offices throughout Pakistan. In 1996, in response to the exponential growth of the Internet in the country, DAWN became the first newspaper in Pakistan to be available on the Internet.
DAWN comes as a complete information package that includes national, city and district news, business, sports and international affairs; features on science and the environment, management and marketing, health, education and editorial and op-ed pages that are considered to be world class.
Adding weight to DAWN are its superbly edited in-paper magazines. The Economic and Business Review on Monday is read by businessmen throughout Pakistan; The Review on Thursday takes aim at family and social issues; Sci-Tech World, Gallery and Young World on Saturday target, respectively, the technology-inclined, the art connoisseurs and the adolescent DAWN readers. On Sunday, three in-paper magazines are distributed with DAWN: the glitzy Images, the literary Books & Authors and the thought-provoking Sunday Magazine.
The DAWN National Weekend Advertiser also accompanies DAWN on Sundays. Comprising three sections, the DAWN National Weekend Advertiser provides its advertisers with a space that is known to provide them with their desired results and provides its readers with visually alluring and easy to navigate pages, as well as content that is as informative as it is engrossing.
DAWN also publishes the HERALD, the country’s most influential monthly current affairs magazine. In 1998, the Group launched AURORA, Pakistan’s very first marketing, media and advertising magazine. This was followed by another publishing initiative, with the launch of SPIDER, Pakistan’s first Internet magazine later that year.
